A Songbook Pure as Your Pain

I was cleaning out my old files the other day and found a drawing I had done two years ago, a portrait of my ex's eye. It took me aback when I saw it. I never realized when I originally drew this how much I had captured him.

Seems like a world away.

Below is an exerpt of a poem I wrote around the time I drew this...
I think it expresses what I was trying to capture.

It hurts to watch you bleed
The merciless anguish you drown in
What do I hold,
my breathing mystery?
Such a dark light
Such a grown up little child
So old in your weariness...

I hear you crying
my quiet symphony
I feel you creating a songbook
as pure as your pain

phantom melodies hidden in your mind

I hear you crying
my quiet symphony
my unexpressed treasure
my beautiful you
